MacDonald's in Tokyo? Pizza Hut in Cambodia? Is it really worth it to travel so far and when you finally get there eat the exact food you would eat at home? While for a Backpacker food tends to be something to simply keep you going, saving as much as possible on it, for a Flashpacker food is part of the travel. Tasting new food from a certain location means getting to know that culture better. This doesn't always mean going for a fancy restaurant, as in many cases the original food is quite cheap as well. Street stalls in China or Thailand, or hawkers centers in Singapore offer great local food at extremely affordable prices. There are also cases where some delicacies are indeed expensive. Say for example Fugu (or Blowfish) in Japan. This extremely expensive fish is something you hardly find somewhere else. Because of its lethal poison only highly specialized chef can prepare it. If that's your cup of tea why not go for it? The Flashpacker won't skip this delicacy only because it's expensive. Isn't it dearer to be in the only place where you can have a certain food and not going for it just because it's expensive? While Backpackers tend to lose weight while traveling, Flashpackers tend to put on weight during their travels, just because there's so much to try, and hey, you can go on a diet when back home to your usual food. | ![]()
